FAQ

  • 1. What does a speech pathologist do?

A paediatric speech pathologist supports children and young people with communication, speech, language, and literacy skills. This includes helping with speech clarity, understanding and using language, fluency, voice, and social communication.

  • 2. At what age should my child see a speech pathologist?

Children can benefit from speech therapy from as early as 18 months if there are concerns about speech, language, or communication development. Early support helps build strong foundations for learning and confidence.

  • 3. How do I know if my child needs speech therapy?

Signs may include difficulty being understood, limited vocabulary, trouble following instructions, challenges with reading and writing, or frustration when communicating. If you’re unsure, an assessment can provide clarity.

  • 4. Where do sessions take place?

We offer flexible therapy options in your home, at school, online, or in the community. This helps children feel comfortable and supported in familiar environments.

  • 5. Do you offer literacy support as well as speech therapy?

Yes. We provide assessments and intervention for reading, spelling, and writing difficulties, including support for children with dyslexia or phonological processing challenges.

  • 6. Can I use NDIS funding for speech pathology services?

Yes, if your child has an NDIS plan that includes speech pathology, our services may be covered. At Coal Coast we are able to support those with self and plan managed plans.
